Tip Calculator
Work out the tip, the total, and what each person pays.
How to use this calculator
Enter the bill amount, the tip percentage you want to leave, and how many people are splitting the bill, then press Calculate tip. The tool shows the tip amount, the grand total including tip, and how much each person owes when the total is divided evenly. Set the split to 1 if you are paying alone. It is handy at restaurants, for food delivery, and for any service where you want to add a percentage and divide the result without doing the maths in your head.
The formula explained
A tip is a percentage of the bill, and the split divides the total:
tip = bill × (percent ÷ 100) · per person = (bill + tip) ÷ people
Converting the percentage to a decimal and multiplying gives the tip amount. Adding it to the bill gives the total to pay. Dividing that total by the number of people gives each share. Because the tip is calculated on the bill before splitting, everyone contributes the same percentage tip regardless of how the bill is divided.
A worked example
On a $50 bill with an 18% tip split between 2 people: the tip is 0.18 × 50 = $9, the total is $59, and each person pays $59 ÷ 2 = $29.50. Change the tip to 20% and the per-person amount rises to $30. The calculator updates all three figures instantly.
