Age Calculator

Find your exact age in years, months and days — and how long until your next birthday.

How to use this calculator

Pick your date of birth in the first box. The second box defaults to today, but you can change it to work out how old you were — or will be — on any other date. Press Calculate age and the tool shows your exact age broken into complete years, months and days, your total age in days, and a countdown to your next birthday. Because it reads real calendar dates, it stays accurate across leap years and months of different lengths without any manual adjustment.

How the calculation works

Age is the gap between two calendar dates, expressed in a way people actually use — years, then months, then days:

age = whole years, then leftover months, then leftover days

The tool first counts how many full years have passed since the birth date. It then counts the additional whole months, and finally the remaining days, borrowing from the previous month's length when the day-of-month hasn't been reached yet. This "borrow" step is why a simple subtraction of years can be off by a day or two near a birthday, and why using true dates matters. The same logic gives the days remaining until the next anniversary of the birth date.

A worked example

Suppose someone was born on 12 April 1998 and today is 11 June 2026. From 1998 to 2026 is 28 years, but the 2026 birthday (12 April) has already passed, so that part is straightforward: 28 years. From 12 April to 11 June is 1 full month (to 12 May) plus 30 days, giving an exact age of 28 years, 1 month, 30 days. The next birthday, 12 April 2027, is about 10 months away. Enter your own dates above to see the same breakdown.

Frequently asked questions

How is exact age calculated?

By counting complete years between the two dates first, then complete months, then the leftover days — adjusting for the different lengths of months.

How do I find days until my next birthday?

Count forward from today to your birth day and month in the current year, or next year if it has already passed.

Does it handle leap years?

Yes — it uses real calendar dates, so leap years and varying month lengths are handled automatically.
